"As part of the president's aides, I will perform my duty with full responsibility," Kumolo affirmed while confirming his new role in a text message received in Jakarta, Tuesday.
Kumolo will take office for several weeks until the President's Working Cabinet for the 2014-2019 period completes its work on Oct 20.
He was officially assigned as the acting law and human rights minister when Jokowi had issued Presidential Decree No.99/P/Tahun 2019 on Sept 30.
Kumolo was the second minister to hold a dual high-ranking position in the presidential working cabinet after Jokowi named Manpower Minister Hanif Dhakiri as the acting youth and sports minister on Sept. 20. However, Dhakiri replaced former minister Imam Nahrawi since the Corruption Eradication Commission had named him a suspect in a bribery scandal.
Apart from Laoly, another minister from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Puan Maharani had also tendered her resignation after being elected as the House of Representatives’ member for the 2019-2024 period. Maharani, whose mother is the ruling party's chief and former president Megawati Soekarnoputri, had served as the coordinating minister of human development and culture.
Laoly and Maharani handed over their resignation letters to the president since the law did not allow a minister to hold a position in the parliamentary office. Related news: Indonesian law and human rights minister resigns
