Jakarta (ANTARA) - Yasonna H Laoly has submitted a letter to President Joko Widodo containing his request for resigning from the law and human rights ministerial post because he will be sworn in as a Member of Parliament in October, a presidential special staff revealed.

"I am able to confirm that he has handed over his resignation letter because he will be sworn in as a member of the House of Representatives (DPR) for the 2019-2024 term. He is barred from holding two positions," Presidential Special Staff Adita Irawati said.

Speaking to journalists in Jakarta on Friday, Irawati said, in his letter dated on Sept 27, 2019, Yasonna H Laoly was keen to resign from his ministerial post officially starting from October 1.

Yasonna who will be administered an oath of being an MP representing the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Faction in October thanked President Joko Widodo for having appointed him his cabinet member during the first presidential term.
