Jakarta (ANTARA) - Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly held a meeting with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the National Palace, Jakarta, Monday, to deliberate on the Corruption Eradication Commission's (KPK's) law revision draft.

"I was given the draft and will have a review. That is all for now," Laoly stated while revealing that President Jokowi had ordered government officials to conduct a detailed review.

Speaking in connection with a plan to form a supervisory board for the KPK, Laoly highlighted the significance of governmental institutions playing a supervisory role.

"We will see later. The thing that matters is all government institutions should apply the system of checks and balances," he affirmed.

Nonetheless, the government will yet give due consideration to the plan.

Revision of Law Number 30 of 2002 on the KPK was suggested by the House of Representatives' (DPR's) Legislation Body that had later received an approval to become the DPR initiative bill at the plenary meeting on September 5, 2019.

The Legislation Body will speed up the bill deliberation process, as their service period will soon end.

Various concerns brought up comprised the KPK to be brought under the control of the executive and legislature, the formation of a supervisory board, and the KPK needing to receive permission from the board to employ essential anti-corruption tools, most notably wiretapping.

The KPK will have to suspend the investigation and prosecution of corruption cases by issuing an SP3 letter if the cases were not completed within a year. Related news: Anti-graft agency chairman to resign if revision done
