Jambi (ANTARA) - The Jambi Provincial Police are handling a case involving 12 plantation companies and 41 individuals allegedly involved in land and forest fires.

Two of the 12 plantation companies had been named suspects in the land and forest fires, Director of the Criminal Detective Unit of the Jambi Provincial Police, Senior Commissioner Thein Tabero, said in Jambi on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, 10 other plantation companies are being investigated, he said.

All the 41 individuals have been named suspects in the case of land and forest fires that caused a haze in the province in the past couple of months.

The individual suspects in the case include five in Tebo District, three in Muarajambi District and 20 in Batanghari District.

"The individual suspects will be charged with violating Article 108 of the forestry law number 41 of 2019. If found guilty, they could be sentenced to up to 10 years in jail and fined to up to Rp10 billion," he said.
