The fight against corruption must be conducted fairly and orderly and not discriminately
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto supports implementing the Law on Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) revised after common agreement between Indonesian House of Representatives’ political party factions and Government.

"Hence, let us give an opportunity to prove that in fact, by revising the law, the spirit to fight corruption will become much better," Kristiyanto remarked while addressing thousands of Muslim students of the Al Tsaqafah Islamic Boarding School managed by Said Aqil Siradj, chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), here on Tuesday evening.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Vice President-elect Ma'ruf Amin as well as their supporting political parties remain strongly committed to the efforts to eradicate corruption, he pointed out.

"PDIP, in its political endeavors, abides by the regulation of good governance. The unanimous agreement of the DPR RI should be offered an opportunity by implementing the law properly," he noted.

The fight against corruption, with or without the KPK Law, is a common task, as corruption is a crime against humanity, he stated.

"Hence, it would be better that the (revised) law be implemented. Do not follow the tradition of bad governance. The law was not passed, but there was already a discourse to issue a government regulation in lieu of the law (perppu)," he remarked.

Kristiyanto averred that the PDIP detests corruption, so the party is prompt to fire any of its members involved in corruption.

Speaking in connection with Indonesia's university students demanding the Government to issue a perppu at the latest on October 13, 2019, to cancel the revised KPK Law, he questioned the rationale behind it when the revised KPK Law had yet to be tested for its effectiveness.

He cautioned against trusting a slander claiming that the revised KPK Law was pro-corruption, when on the contrary, the revision was made to ensure that the abuse of power conducted in the KPK would not recur.

"The fight against corruption must be conducted fairly and orderly rather than discriminately," Kristiyanto affirmed.
