Themed “Building a Better Future of Indonesia: Toward a Tolerant, Vibrant and Creative Society,” the congress was officially opened by Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Abdurrahman Mohammad Fachir on Monday.
The congress was attended by Indonesianists coming from the United States, Australia, Gambia, Germany, Myanmar, Russia, China, Timor Leste, and Jordan, among others.
The meeting was organized in cooperation with the State University of Yogyakarta, Tourism Ministry, Research, Technology, and Higher Education Ministry, the University of Gadjah Mada, the Indonesian Arts Institute of Yogyakarta, and the Yogyakarta Administration.
In his opening remarks, Fachir affirmed that Indonesianists can contribute to strengthening Indonesia's identity as a multicultural nation, boosting Indonesian human capital, and aiding in transforming Indonesia's economy.
The deputy minister also noted that Indonesisianists were not only foreign intellectuals, academicians, and researchers, with special interests in Indonesia, but they were also foreigners harboring fondness for Indonesia.
The discussions during the three-day meetings focused on four topics: democracy promotion, promotion of harmonious community, creativity in the revolution 4.0 era, and Indonesian cultural promotion amid globalization.
