Pesantren (Islamic boarding school) is a place where the views of Indonesian Islam were crafted and preserved as well.Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Religious Affairs held “Santriversary” 2019 aimed at being the main event of National Santri Day celebrated yearly on October 22.
Themed “The Magnificence and the Poem of Peace,” this “Santriversary” event took place at the Banteng Square, Jakarta, on the night of Monday, October 21, in which thousands of santries, or devout Muslim school students, participated.
“Pesantren (IIslamic boarding school) is a place where the views of Indonesian Islam were crafted and preserved as well,” Secretary General of the Ministry of Religious Affairs Mohamad Nur Kholis Setiawan pointed out.

On the occasion, Minister of Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifuddin delivered a speech reflecting on Indonesia’s Santri Day, while some Muslim figures also spoke on Islamic matters.
It was a meaningful yet joyous celebration owing to a performance by the music group of Syubbanul Muslimin, who sang poetic songs of peace.
This year's Santri Day celebration was special along with the legitimization of Bill Number 18 of 2019 on Pesantren affairs, according to Setiawan.
“Through the regulation, the state affirmed that pesantren were functioning on education, religious proselytize, as well as the empowerment of Muslim members,” he added. Related news: santris encouraged to become entrepreneurs
