(We) received information from people that a foreigner had likely fallen off a cliff while taking a selfie photo.
Badung (ANTARA) - A local police chief confirmed that Belarus tourist Siarhei Barbushyn reportedly lost balance and fell off the Tanjung Mebulu Cliff in South Kuta, Badung, Bali Island, while clicking a selfie photo.

"Yes, on Oct 27, 2019, at 7:30 p.m. local time, (we) received information from the people that a foreigner had likely fallen off a cliff while taking a selfie photo," Adjunct Commissioner Yusak Agustinus, head of the South Kuta Police Sector, stated here on Monday.

The police was only able to retrieve the passport of Siarhei Barbushyn and a rented car at the location.

"The victim was believed to have come to the cliff without anyone accompanying him. A rented white car was also found there," he revealed.

The search and rescue (SAR) office of Bali and the concerned institutions have deployed personnel to look for the victim since Sunday (Oct 27). The search efforts were hindered by difficult terrain and poor visibility, so the operation was continued on the next day.

"The victim is yet to be found, and most likely, he was swept away by tidal current. The search operation continues," Hari Adi Purnomo, head of the Bali Search and Rescue Office (Basarnas), remarked.
