The Japanese government has given assistance worth 2.5 billion yen for Indonesia's outermost regions.Jakarta (ANTARA) - Newly instated Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) Minister Edhy Prabowo commended Japan for its support to the development of Integrated Marine and Fisheries Centers (SKPT) in Indonesia's outermost islands.
"The Japanese government has lent assistance worth 2.5 billion yen for Indonesia's outermost regions," Prabowo noted in a statement here on Friday.
The aid will be channeled for developing and bolstering the functioning of SKPT as a forum of fishermen in Indonesia's remote areas.
Prabowo received a visit of Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia Masafumi Ishii at his office on Thursday (Oct 31, 2019). Prabowo was inducted as maritime affairs and fisheries minister by President Joko Widodo on October 24, 2019, to succeed Susi Pudjiastuti.
The minister and the ambassador deliberated on future bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Japan in the maritime and fishery fields.
Japan is keen to continue to lend assistance for the SKPT program and also provide a coastal radar and a patrol boat this year, he revealed.
Ambassador Ishii affirmed that Indonesia and Japan are archipelagic nations with similar strategies, including in maritime and fishery management. The two countries have also established cooperation in maritime and fishery projects.
In addition to Japan, the Indonesian ministry has forged cooperation in the maritime capacity building with Morocco's Maritime Study Institute.
