Surabaya (ANTARA) - Bank Indonesia (BI) supports the development of a sharia-compliant economy and finance as a new source of economic growth through the Indonesia Sharia Economic Festival (ISEF) 2019 to be held at the Jakarta Convention Center from November 12-16.

"We have used the ISEF in the past five years and the festival has always been organized in Surabaya since 2014. But from this year we will move it to Jakarta," Bank Indonesia Deputy Governor, Dody Budi Waluyo, said in Surabaya on Thursday,

Dody said the event themed, "Sharia Economy for Stronger and Sustainable Growth", develops sharia finance not only at a national level but also at a global level as part of efforts to turn Indonesia into a center of excellence for a global sharia economy.

"We want Indonesia to be incorporated into the calendar of sharia global events by organizing the sharia economic festival in November," Dody said

He said some 200 foreign guests will participate in the ISEF through some 45 international scale activities. They will be registered both as source persons and participants.

He expressed hope that through the participation, they would be able to increase the business value in accordance with the first pillar of Blueprint Eksyar Bank Indonesia.

One of them is supporting a sharia economy by developing a halal value chain to help achieve high-quality local products that meet international standards.
