Medan, N Sumatra (ANTARA) - A suspect in a suicide bombing at the Medan Police Headquarter was indoctrinated for six months by an unidentified cleric before becoming an extremist and conducting the attack, a high-ranking police official stated here, Thursday.

North Sumatra Vice Police Chief Brig.Gen Pol. Mardiaz Kusin Dwihananto remarked that the suspect's parents-in-law admitted to a change in the behavior of the 24-year-old male RMN, the alleged suicide bomber, in the past six months.

"The family members noticed a sudden change in the suspect's behavior," Dwihananto remarked at the Police's Brigade Mobile HQ in Medan, Thursday.

He further sought greater vigilance and awareness from the people in North Sumatra Province over some unidentified groups staying in the neighborhood.

"In case any suspicion arises, we must immediately report to the Police or Military Command, as well as the sub-district office," he noted.

A suicide-bombing attempt, allegedly launched by RMN, targeted the Medan Police HQ on Wednesday. The terror attack caused injuries to six people, though no fatally-ill casualties were reported.

Shortly after the incident, the police conduct a search of the suspect’s house and questioned his wife and her parents. The police officers seized some pieces of evidence, including two green baskets containing dozens of arrows, a pole, and some documents at the private residence of the accused.

The police are currently yet on the lookout for the unidentified cleric whose whereabouts elude all.
