It proves that our program is considered successfulJakarta (ANTARA) - The presence of a delegation from Nigeria to study the Family Hope Program (PKH) implemented by the government proves that the program is successful, especially in reducing poverty, Social Minister Juliari Peter Batubara has said. "They come here to study the programs. It proves that our program is considered successful," Juliari said after a meeting with the Nigerian delegation in Jakarta Monday.
The success of the PKH in reducing poverty was also recognized by the World Bank. So, the program deserved to become an example for other countries who could also implement it, according to Juliari.
"So this recognition is not from ourselves but by the World Bank so that friends from the World Bank learn it," he added.
In November 2018, the Nigerian delegation visited Indonesia to study the implementation of the PKH.
Previously, 14 countries had conducted a study on the PKH including Malaysia, the Philippines, East Timor, Myanmar, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Vietnam, Mongolia, Korea, Laos, Pakistan, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.
The family hope program is being implemented on priority by the Ministry of Social Affairs because it has had an impact on reducing poverty by reaching 10 million beneficiaries.
The PKH budget since 2014 has increased dramatically from Rp5.6 trillion in 2014 to Rp34.4 trillion in 2019.
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) released details on the poverty rate in September 2018, which showed a drop to 9.66 percent from the previous 9.82 percent in March 2018. With this decline, the number of poor people is now 25.67 million from the previous 25.95 million.
In March 2019, poverty fell to 9.41 percent or a 0.25-percentage point decrease from September 2018 out of a total population of 25.14 million.
Besides, a survey in 2019 by MicroSave Consulting Indonesia which is an independent institution owned by Bill and Melinda Gates, also shows that the PKH has had a positive impact on the achievements of beneficiary children, and encourages the presence of Beneficiary Families (KPM) for health care facilities.
