"In the past dozens of years since the Ombudsman was set up, it has not been effective. Many government apparatuses had ignored its recommendations,"
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD voiced concern over several government officials and institutions not giving due attention to the Indonesian Ombudsman's recommendations.

"In the past dozens of years since the Ombudsman was set up, it has not been effective. Many government apparatuses had ignored its recommendations," he stated in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The minister made the remarks while opening a seminar and conferment of compliance predicate 2019 held by the Indonesian Ombudsman at Hotel JS Luwansa.

In fact, the state formed the Ombudsman to assist the government in rectifying corrupt and lengthy systems and connecting the people to the government, he stated.

"The Ombudsman was set up by the state to help the government and people instead of being hostile to the government. Several people still underestimate the Ombudsman," he remarked.

The minister acknowledged the receipt of several reports on administrative violations, poor public services, and in-executable sentences after learning recommendations from the Ombudsman

He appealed to all government apparatuses to be heedful of Ombudsman's recommendations.

The Ombudsman gives solutions apart from the trial, but its recommendations are able to solve problems objectively, he stated.

"Do not let the Ombudsman's letters go unheeded. Do not do that. Every official should thank the Ombudsman," he added.
