Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) summoned PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN) VI Commissioner M. Syarkawi Rauf in connection with investigation over corruption in a sugar distribution bribery case in PTPN III during the 2019 financial year.

PTPN VI operates in the fields of palm oil and rubber and tea plantations, while PTPN III operates in the fields of palm oil and rubber.

Syarkawi is scheduled to be a witness for Marketing Director of PTPN III I Kadek Kertha Laksana, who has been named a suspect.

"Syarkawi is scheduled to come in today as suspect," KPK's spokesperson, Febri Diansyah, remarked in Jakarta on Monday.

Apart from Syarkawi, the KPK also summoned two other witnesses for suspect Laksana: Chairman of the Indonesian Sugarcane Farmers Association (APTRI) X H. Mubin and APTRI XI Chair Sunardi Edi Sukamto.

In total, the KPK had named three suspects in connection with the sugar distribution bribe case, including Pieko Nyotosetiadi from PT Fajar Mulia Transindo, who is suspected of handing out the bribes, while the recipient is Managing Director of PTPN III Dolly Pulungan (DPU) and I Kadek Kertha Laksana (IKL).

During the reconstruction of the case, it was explained that Pieko was the owner of PT Fajar Mulia Transindo and other companies involved in the distribution of sugar.

In early 2019, Pieko's company was appointed as the private party under a long-term contract with PTPN III.

The private sector receives a quota to import sugar on a monthly basis as long as the contract is effective.

Under the contract with PTPN III, the internal rules pertained to the study to set the monthly sugar prices. In the sugar price determination processes, the three parties that reportedly agreed on the setting were PTPN III, sugar business maker, in this case Pieko, and ASB as chair of APTRI.

Following the agreement, a meeting took place between Pieko, Dolly, and the chairperson of APTRI's Board of Trustees at the Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta.

Dolly reportedly put forth a request to Pieko highlighting his monetary requirements relating to his personal matters and to solve it through ASB.

Following the meeting, Dolly had requested I Kadek to meet Pieko to follow up on the earlier money request.

Some 345 thousand Singaporean dollars were suspected to be the fees related to the distribution of sugar that included the scope of work of PTPN III, where Dolly is the managing director.
