Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Japanese government has released a grant worth Rp3.37 billion to improve education and health facilities in several Indonesian provinces including South Sumatra, Yogyakarta, West Java and Maluku. "The grant is issued through grassroots assistance for human security in the first period of the budget year 2019," Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia Masafumi Ishii said after signing a document on the grant at the Japanese Embassy in Jakarta Friday.

The grant which constitutes the Japanese government's annual program is aimed at helping partner countries including Indonesia to improve the quality of public life, he said.

"In our view, education and health are the two sectors that can directly contribute to improving the quality of public life," he said.

The Japanese grant was issued for four projects including Rp906 million for the renovation of an elementary school building in Indralaya Mulia, Ogan Ilir District, South Sumatra Province, and Rp868 million for the development of vocational training facilities in Sodo Village, Gunung Kidul District, Yogyakarta.

The other two projects are Rp1.12 billion for the renovation of an elementary school building in Gadog, Cianjur District, West Java Province, and Rp447 million for the renovation of a medical clinic in Ampera, Maluku Tengah District, Maluku Province.

The ambassador said the Japanese government had chosen the four projects for the grant based on the capability to renovate and develop the facilities.
