We had just got back from Dili after the discussion on planning the cross-border bus, and we agreed upon this plan that will open the service for commercial passengers directly from Kupang to Dili, and vice versa
Kupang (ANTARA) - The provincial government of East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, and the government of Timor Leste have agreed to open land transportation access that directly connects Kupang and Dili, the capitals of both regions. This plan is set to launch on a trial basis in the third week of January 2020, as the Head of Transportation Agency for East Nusa Tenggara Province, Isyak Nuka, told ANTARA in Kupang Monday.

"We had just got back from Dili after the discussion on planning the cross-border bus, and we agreed upon this plan that will open the service for commercial passengers directly from Kupang to Dili, and vice versa," Nuka stated.

With no direct access, people of East Nusa Tenggara wishing to travel to Dili need to switch buses at the border post. The same rule applies for people of Timor Leste who want to travel to the East Nusa Tenggara area.

However, once the inter-country buses begin operations, people do not need to switch buses at the border post anymore, Nuka added.

The plan is expected to ease access for people looking to visit each other as well as boost the economic performance of both countries. (INE)
