"Two hundred personnel from the Central Jakarta force will be deployed along the Sudirman-MH Thamrin strip, particularly for securing the HI Roundabout (Bundaran HI)," Chief of the Central Jakarta Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), Bernard Tambunan, stated in Jakarta Monday.
Although security measures are focused in Bundaran HI, he remarked that officers will be stationed at several tourist destinations, including the National Monument and the Lapangan Banteng field.
"(These spots) will be guarded as well. Some 50 personnel are deployed at tourism destinations, but since activities will be concentrated in Bundaran HI, the security measures will be tighter there since the area will be more crowded," he noted, adding that 1,150 personnel are deployed to secure the New Year’s Eve celebrations in Jakarta.
Despite security forces numbering in thousands, he urged the public to maintain conducive conditions during the New Year’s celebrations, particularly at the main focus point at the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout.
"The people should also be careful. For instance, do not bring along young children to areas that appear crowded already. We shall work together to make the New Year celebrations safe," he stated.
The 2020 New Year celebration, organized by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, is focused at the HI Roundabout.
On the last day of 2019, on Tuesday, December 31, starting at 1 p.m. local time, until the completion of the New Year 2020 celebrations, the public can walk or use public transportation should they be interested in participating in the event, as road closures for private vehicles are available, particularly on the MH Thamrin-Sudirman strip.
