Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) received Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu at the Merdeka Palace here on Friday.

At the meeting, Jokowi was accompanied by Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, Minister State Secretary Pratikno, and Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto.

"Welcome to Jakarta and congratulations for being appointed as foreign minister," Jokowi stated.

With a background in economics, the Japanese foreign minister will focus more on economic diplomacy, he pointed out.

"Japan is a major partner of Indonesia, and I know that after this meeting, a detailed discussion centering on bilateral cooperation will be held with the Indonesian foreign minister," Jokowi remarked.
