Nunukan, N Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Indonesian immigration authority in Nunukan District, North Kalimantan Province, deported two Malaysian teenagers -- Muhammad Afiq Syafiq bin Surian, 15, and Nurul Afiqah Syafiqah binti Surian, 13, -- for violating Indonesia’s immigration regulations.

Syafiq and Syafiqah were deported on Tuesday, Jan 7, 2020, aboard the Labuan Express 5 vessel that departed from the Tunon Taka Seaport to the Malaysian State of Sabah's Tawau Seaport, Head of the Nunukan Immigration Office's Supervision Unit Karel stated here on Friday.

The two Malaysian teenagers were arrested shortly after arriving aboard the Cattleya Motor Vessel (MV) at Tunon Taka Seaport from South Sulawesi Province on Dec 13, 2019, on grounds of not possessing passports, though their mother was a descendant of Bugis, Karel revealed.

Their mother, reportedly from Bone District, South Sulawesi, was identified as Nor Alang binti Mennre, 39. Nor Alang holds a Malaysian identity card, as she had been a resident of Sabah since birth.

Nor Alang and her children entered the Indonesian territory through an illegal route in Sebatik Island for traveling to Bone District in South Sulawesi Province for two weeks, Karel stated.
