We want to maintain the traditional process of silk, but we also need to level up to larger amounts of productionMakassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA) - The provincial government of South Sulawesi is exploring cooperation opportunities with the Government of India, especially in the country’s silk industry. South Sulawesi Governor, Nurdin Abdullah, has offered the expansion of the silk industry, as the province is home to silk-producing districts, including Wajo, and so is India as a country.
"India is known for its silk. We want to maintain the traditional process of silk, but we also need to level up to larger amounts of production," he said while receiving the Indian Ambassador to Indonesia, Pradeep Kumar Rawat, in Makassar, Tuesday.
Aside from silk, talks also covered the potential for cooperation in other sectors including trade, education and culture.
The silk industry can develop well in S Sulawesi, as the people have high entrepreneurship skills, while other cooperation can also be developed, Ambassador Rawat believed.
"There are a lot of opportunities for us to cooperate with the business makers and the people of South Sulawesi. There is also a strong tradition around silk," he said.
Indonesia, especially in South Sulawesi, and India both have strong traditions revolving around silk, thus, silk trade in both countries can be connected. (INE)
