During the raid, BNN also arrested six people suspected of being involved in the drug smuggling.Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) thwarted an attempt to smuggle an estimated one ton of hashish in Cipayung, East Jakarta, on Tuesday morning.
"The gross weight is about a ton, and the net weight has not been calculated," BNN Deputy for Drug Eradication Inspector General Arman Depari noted in a written statement in Jakarta.
During the raid, BNN also arrested six people suspected of being involved in the drug smuggling.
Dapari remarked that the hashish was transported to Jakarta from Aceh aboard a truck via the provinces of North Sumatra and Lampung.
The hashish was wrapped in 500 plastic packs covered with powder to conceal the smell of hashish from drug sniffer dogs.
"The hashish was packed in plastics covered with powder emitting a strong odor to hoodwink the inspection officers when they deploy drug dogs," he stated.
Dapari revealed that the hashish was intended to be carried to Parung, Bogor, West Java, and distributed to other areas in the country.
The suspects, along with the hashish, were still at the scene. They will later be taken to the BNN Office in Cawang, East Jakarta. Related news: Drug traffickers withholding 250-kg hashish arrested in North Jakarta
