Jakarta (ANTARA) - A delegation of Rabithah Al-Alam Al-Islami, or World Muslim League (WML), is visiting Indonesia to take a cue from Indonesian-style tolerance.

"One thing we observe in Indonesia is that given the immense diversity, the Indonesian (people) remain tolerant and united. We, the other Muslim countries, want to take a cue from Indonesia," WML Secretary General Sheikh Mohammed Abulkarim Al-Essa stated at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday.

During a meeting with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the Merdeka Palace, Sheikh Mohammed Abdulkarim was accompanied by WML Deputy Secretary General for International Relations Mohammed Saeed Almajdoui, Adviser for WML Secretary General Osamah Jibran Alqahtani and Chief of the WML Representative Office in Jakarta Fahad Mohammed Alharbi.

Meanwhile, President Jokowi was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy, Religious Affairs Minister Fachrul Razi, and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung.

"In this context, we hope Indonesia would be able to share the noble values with its various partners, friendly countries, either from the Muslim or non-Muslim world," Mohammed stated.

He pointed to other nations taking a cue from Indonesia that is a moderate nation.

"We, Islamic countries in the international world, highly understand and laud the various steps taken by Indonesia to promote moderate Islam that is open to modernism and is progress-oriented," he stated.

WML is the largest non-governmental Islamic institution in the world. The international Islam media conference is one of the routine activities conducted by WML in Indonesia.

Established in Dzulhijah 1381 H or May 1962 in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, the organization was sponsored by Saudi King Faisal bin Abdulazis. One of the activities conducted by WML in the early days of its establishment was supervising the construction of the Great Mosque of Mecca, the al-Masjid al-arm

One of the crucial activities Rabithah conducted is disseminating the treatise of Islam and its teachings to the world and putting an end to the misperception of Islam created by the enemies of Islam.

Indonesia was appointed as the representative office of the World Mosque Council for the Asia-Pacific region. One of the activities conducted by Rabithah to defend oppressed Muslims is denouncing the Myanmar government that intends to scrap Islamic identity in the country. Rabithah also supports Palestine's independence.
