Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) questioned General Elections Commission (KPU) Chief Arief Budiman as witness in a bribery case concerning mid-term replacement of a House of Representatives (DPR) member for the 2019-2024 period. During an interaction with the press on arrival at the KPK building on Friday, Budiman revealed he will face questioning in the case against four suspects.

The anti-graft body had originally planned to question Budiman on Tuesday (Feb 25), but he failed to turn up owing to floods.

"During the floods, I had been here, but the KPK informed me that access to here was disrupted due to the flooding. The questioning was postponed to Wednesday, but I said I could not come on Wednesday," he stated.

On January 28, the anti-graft body also questioned Budiman for clarification on the mechanism of mid-term replacement at the KPU.

The KPK named four suspects in the bribery case on January 9.

Two of the suspects are former KPU commissioner, identified by the initials as WSE, and former member of the Election Watchdog, identified by the initials as ATF. They have been accused of receiving bribes.

The other suspects include cadre of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), who is currently at large, and a private person accused of bribing WSE and ATF.

WSE sought operating fund worth Rp900 million to help Harun become a DPR member to replace Nazarudin Kiemas, who passed away. WSE only received Rp600 million of the amount.
