Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President (VP) Ma'ruf Amin spoke of improvements being conducted on a continual basis at hundreds of referral hospitals to treat coronavirus (COVID-19) as a precautionary measure to improve care and examination services for patients.

"I think it is ready. In fact, we provide 130 hospitals. Now, those hospitals continue to be repaired, completed, and added. This applies to not only government hospitals but also private hospitals," Vice President Amin stated here on Wednesday.

The government has also outlined steps to handle the increasing number of people intent on going to the hospital.

"The government is ready and has made all-out efforts to check all COVID-19 suspected cases. The government has readied adequate medical personnel and also continues to monitor the spread of coronavirus in various regions," the vice president noted.

Furthermore, the government has continued its efforts to thwart the entry of foreign citizens, especially from countries, with high number of cases of COVID-19.

The government has also intensified supervision at arrival entry points, such as airports and ports.

The government’s spokesperson for COVID-19 Handling Achmad Yurianto had earlier stated that at least 227 government-owned hospitals were ready to provide services and healthcare for the community. Of that figure, 109 are owned by the Indonesian Military, 53 by the National Police, and 65 state-owned hospitals.

Until Tuesday (Mar 17), Yurianto confirmed that the number of COVID-19 positive patients in Indonesia had climbed to 172, with nine patients being cured, and seven dying of the disease.
