Bandung, West Java (ANTARA) - Heavy rains have triggered floods again in seven sub-districts of Bandung District, West Java Province, according to the West Java Provincial Disaster Mitigation Office (BPBD).

Only two sub-districts were flooded on Friday, but later, the flood waters spread to five more sub-districts, said Budi Budiman Wahyu, an official from the West Java BPBD, here on Saturday.

"The seven flood-affected sub-districts are Dayeuhkolot, Baleendah, Bojongsoang, Katapang, Soreang, Banjaran, and Majalaya," Budi stated.

The floods were triggered by incessant and heavy rainfall across Bandung District and City.

Baleendah was the worst-affected, with water levels reaching a height of up to 320 centimeters in the sub-district. In several regions, flooding cut off roads and highways.

A total of 9,659 homes, 38 places of worship, and 26 schools were submerged in the floods. Meanwhile, 1,944 families, or 42,352 persons, were affected by the floods in the seven sub-districts. Of the total flood-hit families, 73 families, or 229 persons, were forced to shift to higher ground for safety.

The BPBD is currently monitoring the water levels at several points, and it has set up command posts in cooperation with the local authorities to help flood victims.
