Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government has distributed COVID-19 rapid test kits to all public health service posts (Puskesmas) in Jakarta on Tuesday night, according to an official.

Residents that had come in close contact with COVID-19 patients will be prioritized for the rapid test kit, Director of Disaster and Fire Control at the Home Affairs Ministry Safrizal Za stated here on Wednesday.

"I have just spoken to the Jakarta governor. He will give priority to the people who are currently on the long list and had come in close contact with patients testing positive for COVID-19," he revealed.

Owing to the limited number of rapid test kits, Jakarta’s residents experiencing mild to moderate symptoms of the disease should head to a referral hospital for undergoing checkups.

He noted that 125 thousand COVID-19 rapid test kits were distributed to all 34 provinces in Indonesia.

In the first stage, the rapid test will be conducted on people, who had once come in close contact with COVID-19 patients and then medical workers involved in treating the COVID-19 patients.

If the number of rapid test kits that return is quite high, then the rapid test will be conducted on a territorial basis covering South Jakarta, among others, he noted.

"The rapid tests will be concentrated in health facilities in the regions, such as public health service posts, regional laboratories, government and regional government-owned hospitals," the government’s spokesman for COVID -19 Handling, Achmad Yurianto, stated on Tuesday.
