Jakarta (ANTARA) - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan will distribute 20 million masks to people residing in the province in an effort to stem the spread of the novel coronavirus disease.

"Everyone will get two masks each," Baswedan said on Wednesday at the Pulogadung Industrial Area, Cakung, East Jakarta, while reviewing the preparations for the mask distribution to five administrative regions of Jakarta.

He said the surgical masks were produced locally in a number of areas and then collected at Pasar Jaya, Pulogadung.

The 20 million masks, he continued, were ready to be distributed to the people, free of charge.

The aid would be distributed in every sub-district of the administrative cities, and provided to people through local administrations, he added.

"The masks should be used and will be given for free," he continued.

He said he hoped all citizens in Jakarta use the masks, which would be provided with the aim of stopping the spread of COVID-19.

"It is hoped for Jakartans to use the masks, in order to ensure that the spread of COVID-19 is stopped," he remarked.
