Jakarta (ANTARA) - Street lights in Jakarta were dimmed during the implementation of Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB), which were imposed as part of efforts to curb coronavirus transmission in the capital city.

Street lights were dimmed since Wednesday (May 6, 2020) as public night activities lessened with the PSBB implementation reaching almost one month, head of the Jakarta's road construction and maintenance office, Hari Nugroho, said here on Thursday.

“Gradually, we will dim all light poles. Because, public night activities and traffic intensity have reduced," Nugroho informed.

The move is aimed at saving the city administration's electricity bills.

"The dimming is also aimed at saving electricity bills. We started (to dim the lamps) on Wednesday, and plan to continue this until the revocation of the PSBB," Nugroho said.

Earlier on Wednesday, a message was circulated among the public that street lamps in the capital city would be dimmed 60 percent, starting the same evening, to save power bills.
