Jakarta (ANTARA) -

Minister of National Development Planning, Suharso Monoarfa, said the government has added Rp56.5 trillion to the economic recovery budget in the Government Work Plan (RKP) 2021 to deal with the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic. "As for economic recovery, there has been an increase in non-operational spending by ministries and institutions of around 55 percent, or Rp56.5 trillion," Monoarfa, who also heads the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), said on Tuesday in Jakarta.

Monoarfa said the budget would be prioritized for three things, namely, support for the development of leading sectors, infrastructure, and increasing human resource capacity.

Prioritized sectors would include industry and tourism through the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, the food security sector through the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, as well as market and SME access through the Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs, he revealed.

The budget for infrastructure support, in the form of construction of access roads, airports, and ports would be channeled through the Ministry of Transportation and the Public Works and Housing Ministry (PUPR), he added.

While the budget to support human resource capacity-building would be disbursed through the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Manpower, he continued.

He further said a number of projects related to national economic recovery would be carried out in 2021, namely, 10 priority tourism destination projects, worth Rp3.28 trillion; nine industrial estates outside Java and 31 smelters, worth Rp628.2 billion; and, industry 4.0 in five priority sub-sectors, worth Rp1.3 trillion.

In addition, vocational education and training for industry 4.0 would be carried out at a cost of Rp4.39 trillion, and an integrated main port network linking Sorong, Bitung, Makassar, Kijing, Belawan / Kuala Tanjung, Tanjung Priok and Tanjung Perak Ports would be developed, the minister informed.

Suharso said the education, health, and social budget would also increase by 15.3 percent, or Rp15.8 trillion.

Meanwhile, the budget for security and order would rise 13.6 percent, or Rp14 trillion; state management 8.9 percent, or Rp9.2 trillion; environment 1.8 percent, or Rp1.9 trillion; and, others, such as statistics and science and technology, 5.7 percent, or Rp5.9 trillion. (INE)
