Admittedly, there is a spike in the number of Indonesians exposed to COVID-19 (in Kuwait)Jakarta (ANTARA) - A total of 59 Indonesians, including 47 nurses, contracted the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infection in Kuwait as of May 27, 2020, according to the Indonesian Foreign Ministry.
"Admittedly, there is a spike in the number of Indonesians exposed to COVID-19 (in Kuwait)," the ministry's acting spokesman, Teuku Faizasyah, remarked during an online press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Six of the 59 Indonesians testing positive for COVID-19 recovered from the infection, 51 are receiving medical treatment and are in stable condition, while two others have succumbed to the disease, he noted.
A spike in the number of COVID-19 cases affecting Indonesians in Kuwait suggested that nurses on the forefront in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic are highly vulnerable to the transmission of the virus, he pointed out.
"Their condition is expected to improve, and we are optimistic of receiving more positive news on them in future," he stated.
Earlier, an Indonesian male nurse, Nanang Suyono, 42, reportedly died on May 25, 2020, after battling the COVID-19 infection for a month.
Suyono, who worked at the Khalid Abdul Mohsen Al-Nafisi Dialisis Center of Al-Sabah Hospital in Kuwait, tested positive for COVID-19 on April 25, 2020.
He died on May 25, 2020, after receiving intensive medical treatment at Jaber Hospital, serving as a center for treating COVID-19 patients in Kuwait.
An Indonesian woman also reportedly died of the COVID-19 infection in Kuwait on May 22, 2020.
