Probolinggo, E Java (ANTARA) - Five health workers contracted the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), thereby bringing the total number of medical personnel exposed to the virus to 21 in Probolinggo District, East Java.

Earlier, 16 health workers in the district were infected with the virus, spokesperson for the Task Force for COVID-19 Response in Probolinggo Dr Anang Budi Yoelijanto noted in a release received by ANTARA in Probolinggo on Wednesday.

Of the five new cases, three were health workers of the Tongas Regional Hospital, one was from the Waluyo Jati Kraksaan Regional Hospital, and another from the Wangkal community health center (puskesmas).

"Alhamdulillah, the five people are in good health and are currently undergoing isolation at the Probolinggo district quarantine house under strict supervision of the Probolinggo District medical team," he remarked.

Health workers at the Tongas Regional Hospital had come in close contact with their colleagues, who had contracted the infection earlier.

The source of transmission is yet untraceable at the Waluyo Jati Kraksaan Hospital and Wangkal Health Center.

The Probolinggo authorities have reminded health workers, including those serving patients at the local community centers, to exercise caution and wear protective equipment.

"We always warn of adherence to the health protocols in an orderly manner at home and work," he added.
