"As of today, the fire has been doused, yet it casts a haze."Meulaboh (ANTARA) - Land and forest fires in Peunaga Cut Ujong Village, West Aceh, burned 2.1 acres of peatland area in the past week due to hot weather, with the situation remaining unchanged by Friday, June 12 evening.
"Some 2.1 acres of peatland got scorched, while currently, fires are still raging in some 10 percent of them," Naharuddin Hasan, chief for the regional forest management unit, stated here on Saturday while adding that the area bordered with the palm oil plantation of locals.
The government had deployed 50 personnel from the unit as well as military, police, and the regional disaster management agency to conduct firefighting by utilizing two water pumps.
"As of today, the fire has been doused, yet it casts a haze," Hasan noted as the team continued to adopt measures to avoid the surfacing of new hotspots and to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.
