"He has left achievements for younger generations who must take the leadership baton at the army," he told journalists after leading the funeral procession of late Pramono Edhie Wibowo, former army chief of staff, at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery on Sunday.
Andika Perkasa said the younger generations at the army must be able to pass the leadership baton on with at least similar or, if possible, better level of achievements. "He is also a simple figure who has never wanted to be overserved," Andika Perkasa said.
After retiring from the Indonesian Defence Forces (TNI), Pramono Edhie Wibowo who was recognized for his professionalism during his military career continued his service to the nation by joining the Democratic Party.
During his active involvement in the Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono-founded political party, Pramono Edhie Wibowo who passed away on Saturday evening had never come to military compounds to maintain the principle of independence, Andika Perkasa said.
In early this year, Pramono Edhie Wibowo finally wanted to meet an invitation to attend a function at the Indonesian Army headquarters, he said, adding that it was really a surprise at that time after having been absent for so long time due to his reluctance.
Wibowo's presence at the function had become the last meeting and interaction with him at the army headquarters, Andika Perkasa said.
Former Army Chief of Staff General (ret) Pramono Edhie Wibowo who passed away at the age of 65 on Saturday evening was buried at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in South Jakarta on Sunday.
Wibowo, the brother-in-law of former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, reportedly died of heart attack at the Cimacan Public Hospital in Cianjur District, West Java Province, on Saturday evening.
He is survived a wife, Kiki Gayatri, and two children, Ayu Ratna Pratiwi and Yusuf Putra Pramono.
According to Cianjur District Head Herman Suherman, before breathing his last, Pramono Edhie Wibowo had received a three-hour medical treatment at the hospital's intensive care unit.
Born in Magelang, Central Java Province, on May 5, 1955, Pramono Edhie Wibowo is the 27th army chief of staff. He held the prestigious position from June 30, 2011 to May 20, 2013.
Wibowo is the son of Lt.Gen.Sarwo Edhie Wibowo, commander of Indonesia's Special Army Forces (RPKAD, now Kopassus) who successfully crushed the Indonesian Communist Party's (PKI's) coup attempts in 1965.
In honoring the passing of this former army chief of staff and Kopassus commander, the Indonesian army across the country flies the nation's flag at half mast for seven days starting from Sunday.
