All these road sections are set aside for our residents that are looking to exercise outdoors during Car Free Day during the transitional phase out of the large-scale social restrictions
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Government’s Special Capital Territory resumed Car Free Day (CFD) since June 21, and the South Jakarta administration has readied five road sections for the event to enable bicycle riding and outdoor exercise for locals.

"The road sections are located in five sub-districts around South Jakarta's administrative areas," South Jakarta Mayor Marullah Matali notified journalists here, Thursday.

The road sections are the Antasari non-toll elevated road in Kebayoran Baru Sub-district; the intersection of KH Moh Safei Hadzami-Cenderawasih road in Kebayoran Lama Sub-district; Tebet Barat Dalam Raya in Tebet Sub-district; Kesehatan Raya in the Bintaro neighborhood of Pesanggrahan Sub-district; and Cipete Raya in Cilandak Sub-district.

"All these road sections are set aside for our residents that are looking to exercise outdoors during Car Free Day during the transitional phase out of the large-scale social restrictions," Matali stated.

The South Jakarta city administration has prepared the road sections related to CFD for halting crowds of people at certain locations based on a comprehensive evaluation on the Jakarta provincial government's decision to resume the CFD on June 21.

During the CFD in South Jakarta, it is necessary for local residents to continue to follow measures mandated by the COVID-19 protocols.

To this end, the South Jakarta city government has deployed transportation officers, who will receive assistance from personnel of the public order agency (Satpol PP), among others, to monitor those flocking to the road sections, he explained.

On June 21, Jakartans again thronged the Sudirman-MH Thamrin Streets for riding bicycles and engaging in outdoor exercises, as the provincial government had resumed CFD amid the plummeting rate of new cases of confirmed novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) over the past week.

Before being suspended by the Jakarta provincial government since March 15 to break the chain of the COVID-19 pandemic, several Jakartans were accustomed to enjoying their Sunday morning with their kids, family members, and friends on CFD.

Jakartans and anyone partaking in the capital city's CFD are instructed to follow healthcare and COVID-19 protocols, such as maintaining recommended physical and social distancing measures, wearing face masks, and staying clean.

Those from the vulnerable group, including elderly, pregnant women, and kids under the age of nine should stay at home and keep fit rather than participate in the CFD.

The Jakarta provincial government has issued repeated warnings to its residents to temporarily keep children, pregnant women, and elderly away from events that attract congregations of people during the transitional period toward a new normal that came into effect since June 5.

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan reiterated that people, with comorbidities, were also banned from partaking in events involving hordes of people since they fell in the vulnerable group amid the ongoing global pandemic of the novel coronavirus disease.

Jakarta has officially been declared a COVID-19-affected area in Indonesia following the central government's confirmation of the country's first cases on March 2 this year.

Coronavirus infections initially emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan at the end of 2019.
