Based on the fact that many Indonesian citizens and migrant workers are still submitting requests to return to Indonesia, we are planning to organize the sixth special flightJakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan extended assistance to repatriate 250 migrant workers on the fifth special repatriation flight for Indonesian citizens from Brunei Darussalam amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Those Indonesian migrant workers, who had completed their work tenure in Brunei Darussalam, were repatriated on Sunday, July 5, 2020, according to a press release issued by the Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan and received here on Monday.
This repatriation was the fifth of its kind to have been undertaken after the first special flight to Jakarta on May 1, 2020, the second flight to Jakarta on May 15, the third flight to Surabaya on May 17, 2020, and the fourth flight to Jakarta on June 21, 2020. Those five special flights are the result of cooperation with Royal Brunei Airlines.
"Based on the fact that many Indonesian citizens and migrant workers are still submitting requests to return to Indonesia, we are planning to organize the sixth special flight," Indonesian Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, Sujatmiko, stated.
The ambassador further explained that based on the results of a survey conducted by the Indonesian Embassy, some 300 other Indonesian citizens in Brunei Darussalam are keen to return to Indonesia.
Ambassador Sujatmiko is also optimistic that regular two-way flights between Brunei Darussalam and Indonesia would resume soon.
Since the first special flight, a total of 666 Indonesians in Brunei were successfully repatriated to Indonesia on a self-funded basis.
Most Indonesian migrant workers, who returned on the recent special flight, were workers whose employment contracts had expired in Brunei Darussalam.
The Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan also provided gloves, masks, and a travel certificate to each repatriated citizen. Furthermore, a Health Alert Card from the Indonesian Ministry of Health is provided to them that should be filled out.
Upon arrival in Indonesia, they will undergo COVID-19 treatment procedures, including the COVID-19 swab-test and the 14-day quarantine period. Related news: Embassy facilitates return of 98 migrant workers from Brunei
