Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Minister Mahfud MD confirmed the plan to reactivate the corruptor hunting team though made assurance of it not assuming the tasks of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

"Joint work is required, with no need to scramble or take over others' job. However, deliver achievements in each of our job positions as mandated by the law," Mahfud noted in a video on his Instagram account @mohmahfudmd here on Tuesday.

"The KPK is a separate institution. Coordination will be conducted with the KPK, as an institution specialized in corruption eradication, and maybe they already have their own measures. We will work in coordination," the minister expounded.

The process to reactivate the team to hunt down corruptors and other convicted persons is still underway, he confirmed.

"We already have the presidential instruction (Inpres) on the asset hunter, corruptor and other convicted persons hunting team. The team will be formed soon," he stated.

The team will involve several institutions, including the Attorney General’s Office, the police, Law and Human Rights Ministry, Home Affairs Ministry, and other related institutions.

The corruptor hunting team was first set up in 2004 in accordance with Presidential Instruction No. 5 of 2004.

The Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) noted that since its establishment, it had managed to only capture four out of the targeted 16 corruptors.

Earlier, on Wednesday (July 8), Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD stated that the government will reactivate the corruptor hunting team comprising personnel of the Indonesian Police, Attorney General’s Office, and Law and Human Rights Ministry.

"The team will work under the coordination of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs. The team had recorded some achievements. Perhaps, the corruptor hunting team can also arrest a suspect when it tracks down Djoko Tjandra," Mahfud remarked.
