Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) signed a Government Regulation (PP) on COVID-19 handling and national economic recovery that stipulated the formation of a policy committee for COVID-19 handling, Coordinating Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto stated.

"This afternoon, Mr President has summoned the team and signed a Government Regulation on COVID-19 handling and national economic recovery," Hartarto remarked during a virtual press conference at the Presidential Office in Jakarta on Monday.

In accordance with the PP, the president has set up the Policy Committee to supervise the Task Force for Acceleration of COVID-19 Handling and Task Force for National Economic Recovery (PEN).

The committee will be led by the coordinating minister for economic affairs, with deputy chairpersons: the coordinating minister for maritime affairs and investment, coordinating minister for political, legal and security affairs, coordinating minister for human development and cultural affairs, finance minister, home affairs minister, and health minister.

The state enterprises (BUMN) minister will coordinate the work of the two task forces.

"The COVID-19 task force will still be led by Doni Monardo and the task force for economic recovery is still under Deputy BUMN Minister Budi Gunawan Sadikin," he stated.

The team is tasked with evaluating the national economic conditions, multi-year economic program, development of COVID-19 cases, and availability of COVID-19 test kits and vaccine.

"We witnessed that recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic would take time. Hence, the president has tasked the team with planning and executing the program of COVID-19 handling and economic recovery. Both issues are handled by the same institution, with all-out coordination," he added.
