Pangkalpinang, Bangka Belitung (ANTARA) - A joint search and rescue team of Bangka Belitung (Babel) Islands Province rescued 10 crew members of a squid fishing boat that capsized after being hit by high waves in the Bangka waters.

"We have managed to rescue 10 of the 11 crew members of MV Sidarahayu that capsized after being hit by huge waves," Babel's SAR Mission Coordinator, Fazzli, stated here on Friday.

One crew member identified as Angkik, 21, went missing after the boat overturned, as he was pulled away by strong currents.

"Currently, we are still on the lookout for the crew member of this ill-fated boat, as he was drawn away by the currents," he revealed.

One of the survivors recalled bad weather conditions when the incident took place. When the boat capsized, the crew members swam and later managed to climb atop the overturned boat, barring one person, who got sucked away by the currents.

The boat had departed from Muara Angke on August 12, 2020, and was scheduled to go out to sea for the next 100 days for squid fishing.
