Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Strategic Study Center of the National Police (Lemkapi) expressed strong condemnation to the attack on the Ciaracas Police Station in East Jakarta on early Saturday.

"The brutal act cannot be ignored since it is a gross violation and tarnishes the state symbol," Lemkapi Executive Director Dr Edi Hasibuan noted in a written statement released on Saturday.

The former member of the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) called on the National Police chief to subject those involved in the attack to the legal process.

"The times have changed. It is not time anymore to commit arson. If the police take wrong steps, then it can be discussed with the (Ciracas) police precinct or the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police," Hasibuan stated.

Despite the incident, he called on the ranks and files of the National Police to keep their motivation levels high in serving the public.

"Let us introspect to improve services, so the National Police will progressively become better," he stated.

A group of some 100 unidentified people attacked the Ciracas Police Station on Jalan Raya Bogor in East Jakarta on early Saturday.

The attack caused damage to the police station's fences and glass windows as well as the official car of the deputy chief of the Ciracas police precinct.

Two police officers sustained injuries in the attack. They are receiving treatment at the Police Hospital.

The attack was the second of its kind to have occurred since December 11, 2018, when a group of unidentified people also attacked the police station.
