"Active cases are the number of people that are currently ill. They can be treated at a hospital or in independent isolation at home," Dr Dewi Nur Aisyah, a member of the COVID-19 Task Force's Expert Team, stated during a press conference at Graha BNPB here on Wednesday.
Currently, the number of active cases reaches 42,009, or some 23.7 percent of the total case count. Meanwhile, of all those contracting the disease, 72.1 percent, or 128,057 people, have recovered.
The death toll reaches 7,505, or some 4.2 percent of the total confirmed cases.
"If we look at the actual figure of active cases, we are below the world average. If the world average is 26.6 percent, our active cases stand at 23.7 percent," she pointed out.
In several regions, the number of confirmed cases has increased, and requisite precautionary measures should be taken for ensuring the availability of medical treatment facilities.
"Hence, the hospital capacity will certainly experience an overload," she stated.
Hence, Aisyah advised Indonesians to maintain their health and prevent transmission of COVID-19 by continually applying the required health protocols, specifically by washing hands frequently with soap and running water, always wearing masks, and maintaining physical distancing in crowded places.
"Hence, we have to stay ready. Do not get infected. Hence, stay healthy," Aisyah added.
