Gresik, E Java (ANTARA) - At least 20 pregnant women in Gresik district, East Java, have tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the past week.

They are among 42 women who gave birth to children at the Ibnu Sina Regional General Hospital (RSUD) in Gresik.

"Before they gave birth to children, they took tests and the results show tens of them tested positive for the COVID-19,” Dr. Wiwik Kurnia Ilah, who handles COVID-19 patients at the hospital said here on Wednesday.

She urged the public to comply with health protocols, although the district has currently been classified as an orange zone, or an area with a moderate risk of COVID-19 transmission.

Chief of public relations services for the Gresik District Administration, Reza Pahlevi, said the number of COVID-19 patients who have recovered in the past month in the district has been higher than the number of new cases.

Hence, the district’s status has been changed to orange from red. A red zone is an area with a high risk of COVID-19 transmission.

As per the latest report, the district has recorded 19 fresh COVID-19 cases, with 22 recoveries and one death on Wednesday.

The new cases have been reported from the sub-districts of Bungah, Cerme, Driyorejo, Duduksampeyan, Gresik, Kebomas, and Wringinanom.

In total, the district has reported 2,700 COVID-19 cases, with 2,134 patients recovering, 395 patients being treated, and 171 patients succumbing to the disease.
