Jakarta (ANTARA) - The number of active COVID-19 cases in Indonesia declined to 54,277 on Monday from 54,649 the day before, government spokesperson for COVID-19 handling, Reisa Broto Asmara, said.

"Most of the active cases were found in Jakarta, with 11,438 [cases detected]. The figure fell from 12,078 the day before," she said at an online press conference at the Presidential Office here on Monday.

West Java was next with 6,443 active cases, followed by Central Java with 5,439 active cases, she informed.

“Admittedly, the number of active cases has fluctuated. But, as per data [compiled] today, on average, the number of active cases (in all parts of) Indonesia has declined,” she said.

By Monday (September 14, 2020), the number of confirmed COVID-19 patients increased by 3,141 to 221,523, with 158,405 patients recovering from the virus and 8,841 patients succumbing to it.

Meanwhile, the number of suspected COVID-19 cases reached 98,842. They were spread over 491 districts and cities in the country's 34 provinces.

The number of specimens examined on Monday stood at 22,606, taking the total number of specimens examined using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and molecular rapid testing to 2,672,710. (INE)
