The race, organized by the Sleman district authority in Yogyakarta province, had been scheduled to start and end at the Banyunibo Temple in Prambanan. It had earlier been scheduled for July this year, but had been postponed on account of the pandemic, Sleman district secretary, Harda Kiswaya, said here on Wednesday.
“The police had suggested the race be postponed until the end of December, 2020. But, since this is the second postponement, we thought that technically, the race could not be organized, and we cancelled this,” Kiswaya explained.
In addition, he said, the district will soon hold simultaneous elections for which the election campaign will start in September.
Head of the tourism office of Sleman district, Sudarningsih, said the race could not be held virtually, as suggested by some parties, because participants would have had to run past some temples.
She said about 560 people from several Indonesian provinces and countries had registered for the race.
The organizer of the race will send the T-shirts, masks, and finishers medals to all participants at their addresses. (INE)
