Jakarta (ANTARA) - The number of confirmed COVID-19 patients receiving treatment at the Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital, Kemayoran, Central Java, increased by 1,066 to reach 2,757 as of 8 a.m. local time, Thursday, from 1,691 the day before.

No suspected COVID-19 patients were administered treatment at the hospital on that day, the hospital's spokesman, Marine Colonel Aris Mudian, noted in a written statement.

The 2,757 patients comprised 1,334 men and 1,423 women, he confirmed.

Wisma Atlet, with 10 towers, was once an athlete village when Jakarta and Palembang had co-hosted the 2018 Asian Games.

President Joko Widodo officially converted some of the towers into a 12-thousand bed capacity COVID-19 emergency hospital on March 23, 2020.

The government, through the National Defense Forces (TNI) Headquarters, appointed the Joint Defense Territory Command (Kogabwilhan) I to operate the pioneering COVID-19 emergency hospital in the country.

Kogabwilhan I is tasked with operating four COVID-19 care and handling centers, Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital in Jakarta, COVID-19 hospitals on Sebaru Island, Seribu Islands off Jakarta's north coast, and on Natuna Island, Riau Islands, and special infection hospital on Galang Island, Riau Islands.

Since March 23, 2020, the Wisma Atlet COVID-19 Emergency Hospital offered treatment to 16,626 patients, of which 283 were transferred to other hospitals.

Of the total, 13,417 patients were discharged from the hospital, while six patients succumbed to the disease.

Meanwhile, the number of patients being treated at the special infection hospital on Galang Island reached 276 comprising 170 men and 106 women. The 276 patients comprised 182 confirmed COVID-19 patients and 94 suspected COVID-19 patients.

Since April 12, 2020, the hospital treated 2,722 patients, of which seven were transferred to other hospitals, 573 patients recovered, while 1,866 others were suspected patients. No patient at the hospital died of COVID-19.
