Bengkulu (ANTARA) - The Bengkulu Police found two hectares of a marijuana field at a coffee plantation in Rejang Lebong District, Bengkulu Province, and uprooted 1,500 marijuana plants at the location.

Bengkulu Police spokesman Senior Commissioner Sudarno stated here on Friday that the police had failed to locate the owner of the marijuana field during the raid.

"When our personnel arrived at the location, no one was there. However, we have their identities," he remarked.

Sudarno revealed that it took 12 hours on foot to reach the location of the field in a forest of Lubuk Alai Talang Palembang Kecil Village in Sindang Beliti Ulu Sub-district with rough terrain.

"The crime scene is far from the residential area. The police walked for 12 hours to reach the location. Our personnel were deployed to the location on late Thursday," he remarked.

The police uprooted 1,500 marijuana plants, some of which were destroyed at the location while some were brought to the Bengkulu Police headquarters as evidence.

Sudarno noted that the police had also seized 250 kg of dried marijuana leaves, a scale, handmade rifle, and can of marijuana seeds.

"The marijuana had been planted in the two-hectare area, interspersed with coffee. We received information (on the marijuana field) from residents," Sudarno added.
