Jokowi's UN speech accentuates Indonesia's support for Palestine

President Joko Widodo emphasizes support for Palestine's independence during his virtual speech at the UN's 75th General Assembly, Wednesday, September 23, 2020, Jakarta time.

Palestine is the only state that attended the Bandung Conference that has yet to gain independence. Indonesia, on its part, keeps it consistent to push Palestine for achieving its rights.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), in a pre-recorded speech before the United Nations (UN) General Assembly on Wednesday, Jakarta time, re-emphasized that Indonesia will not waver from its stance to consistently offer support for Palestinian independence.

During the general debate session of UN’s 75th General Assembly, Jokowi stated that Indonesia remained resolved to contribute to world peace as it aligns with the country's Constitution.

"Indonesia will always fulfill this commitment consistently, including when this country is sitting on the Security Council. We will always put forward the spirit of cooperation, the spirit that benefits everyone. No one, no country should be left behind," Jokowi stated in Indonesian.

The president pointed out that equality was the matter that Indonesian Founding Father, Soekarno, had upheld during the 1955 Bandung Conference -- Asia and Africa states’ high-level summit -- that resulted in the declaration of Dasasila Bandung.

Dasasila Bandung, a declaration comprising 10 points for world peace and cooperation, remains relevant in today's scenario, including to resolve disputes peacefully, boost cooperation, and respect international law.

"Palestine is the only state that attended the Bandung Conference that has yet to gain independence. Indonesia, on its part, keeps it consistent to push Palestine for achieving its rights," President Jokowi noted.
