Jakarta (ANTARA) - As many as 3,207 COVID-19 patients recovered in Indonesia in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries since the country reported its first infections in March to 199,403, the task force informed.

According to data provided by the Task Force for COVID-19 Response here on Saturday (September 26, 2020), Indonesia recorded 4,494 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total caseload to 271,339.

Meanwhile, with 90 more people succumbing to the disease, the death toll reached 10,308.

Jakarta recorded the highest number of new cases at 1,322 and the highest number of recoveries at 764, followed by West Java, which reported 386 fresh cases and 622 recoveries, while East Java saw 279 fresh cases and 338 patients recovering in the last 24 hours.

Six provinces reported less than 10 new infections on Saturday — Bangka Belitung, North Kalimantan, North Maluku, West Sulawesi, East Nusa Tenggara, and Gorontalo.

Central Kalimantan was the only province that did not report any fresh COVID-19 cases.

The COVID-19 pandemic, which emerged from Wuhan, China, in late 2019, has affected 495 districts and cities in Indonesia's 34 provinces.

In the meantime, on September 8, 2020, the government set up a National Team for the Acceleration of COVID-19 Vaccine Development and installed Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, as the head of its steering team.

Currently, Indonesia is seeking to obtain COVID-19 vaccines through two means: by developing an indigenous vaccine named after the national flag, the Red and White; and, importing vaccines through cooperation with foreign countries or institutions.
