Let us not generalize one city or one district, let alone a province, this will be detrimental to many people
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Joko Widodo has said that local interventions, in the form of micro social distancing, which are implemented repeatedly, can be more effective in curbing the spread of coronavirus infections.

"Micro-scale social distancing at the village level, neighborhood level, or offices, or Islamic boarding schools, I think are more effective," he said at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday.

"Repeated mini lockdowns will be more effective," he said during a limited meeting, held via video teleconference, on the report of the Committee on Handling COVID-19 and National Economic Recovery.

The President asked the COVID-19 Handling Committee to raise awareness about local interventions among provincial, district, and city governments to control the spread of the novel coronavirus disease.

"Let us not generalize one city or one district, let alone a province, this will be detrimental to many people," he remarked.

According to data from the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, as of 12 p.m. western Indonesia time on Sunday (September 27, 2020), the number of COVID-19 cases in Indonesia has reached 275,213, with recoveries recorded at 203,014 and deaths at 10,386.

DKI Jakarta has been listed as the province with the most additional COVID-19 cases, followed by West Java and Central Java. (INE)
