Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Health Ministry has made assurance of adequate number of isolation rooms at referral hospitals for the treatment of COVID-19 patients, with the number of referral hospitals having increased to 903 nationwide.

"Currently, we have 132 referral hospitals (appointed by) the Health Ministry and 771 referral hospitals based on gubernatorial decrees. With the increased number of referral hospitals, the capacity of isolation rooms has also increased," the ministry's Director for Referral Health Services, Dr Rita Rogayah Sp.P (K), M.A.R.S., noted in a statement here on Wednesday.

Isolation rooms at referral hospitals, appointed by the Health Ministry, have a capacity of 35 thousand beds, while referral hospitals appointed by local governments have 51,222 isolation beds.

"For now, the focus is Jakarta. Currently, it has some five thousand isolation beds," Rogayah noted.

The capital Jakarta was among the 11 priority provinces for handling of the COVID-19 pandemic in addition to West Java, Central Java, East Java, South Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, North Sumatra, Bali, Papua, Banten, and Aceh.

"The occupancy rate of isolation rooms in those 11 provinces has ranged between 40 and 60 percent. With this ratio, the number of beds and isolation rooms still suffices," she explained.

As of Tuesday (Oct 13), the COVID-19 task force recorded a spike of 3,906 cases that brought the total count of positive cases to 340,622, while the number of recoveries increased by 4,777 to reach 263,296 patients, and the number of those succumbing to the disease rose by 92 to reach 12,027.
