Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, made the remarks at the virtual launch of the ‘Startup4Industry’ program in Jakarta on Wednesday.
“In line with digital transformation, the need for technological innovation among the people and the industry will also increase. In the new normal adaptation as well, where there needs to be social restrictions, it can be said that all national economic lines very much rely on technology,” he said.
According to the 2020 Global Startup Ecosystem Report (GSER), he continued, Indonesia is ranked second in the Top 100 Emerging Ecosystems category, which shows that a conducive start-up ecosystem has been built in Indonesia through the efforts of the government, the private sector, and academics.
Indonesia is one of the countries sought after by investors to fund start-up businesses, Kartasasmita noted. The GSER report has also shown Indonesia is a potential market for digital technology, he said.
Since 2018, when Making Indonesia 4.0 was launched by President Joko Widodo, as an initiative to revolutionize the industry by implementing technology, the Ministry of Industry has made various efforts to encourage the implementation of Technology 4.0, the minister said.
The efforts include the pilot project for Industry 4.0 implementation, Industry 4.0 transformation manager trainings, socializations and seminars on Industry 4.0, coaching and assessment of Indonesia Industry 4.0 Readiness Index, e-smart IKM, and the newly launched Startup4Industry.
“Industry 4.0 requires the role of start-ups as implementers and problem-solvers to materialize Indonesia 4.0. For that reason, the technological solution ecosystem that is shaped by Startup4Industry will help the realization of the Industry 4.0 ecosystem," the minister said.
